Grimm's Snow White

With three versions of the Snow White story released this year, how does the first one off the starting blocks fare?  Well, you have never seen any version quite like this before.  Dragons, elves, weird looking dogs and lots of carnage all appear on screen.

The evil queen Gwendolyn has set her sights on handsome Prince Alexander but her step daughter Snow White stands in the way as the Prince loves her.  There isn't a dwarf in sight, so Snow White is assisted by elves with great 'Mr Spock' ears and a nice sprinkle of magic.  The film makers have travelled to Austria, so the scenery is stunning and they have also film in some nice locations as well standing in for the Royal residence.

For a 'Snow White' film it's not suitable for younger kids as there is a bit of dragon eating violence, stabbings and even a beheading.  However it's all done in a hammy/panto way and all the actors constantly chew the scenery so it's not going to really harm anyone.

A big thumbs up to Jane March who plays the Queen in full on 'Dynasty' mode as a power hungry bitch complete with fur coat.   Also, one the actors who plays the Prince's man servant looks very much like opera singer Paul Potts.  Thankfully he doesn't sing!!

Not the greatest version of the tale Disney still has the edge and always will, but well done for the film makers having the balls to make it different.
